An Interview with

Francis Alberich

Lucki: "I only have one question: Does having an extra set of eyes allow you to see better/further than a normal person?"

I hope you are not implying that Thestalian eyes are somehow "abnormal"! Anyway, having a second pair of eyes enhances your peripheral vision and depth perception. It's obvious when you think about it: if I close my lower eyes, my field of view becomes narrower. Right?

Going off on a tangent... apparently there are some colors visible only to Thestalian eyes. I believe this is due to something called tetrachromacy. It doesn't really have anything to do with having two pairs of eyes -- closing my lower eyes doesn't seem to affect my color perception. Nevertheless, it is an interesting piece of information.

titanicgurl: "Were you this evil before your father's head exploded?"

Aside from burning kittens and skinning puppies alive? No, not really.

sakurai_atsushi: "Excuse me for being a bit nervous, I am such a fan of yours! *clears throat* Alright then.. what is your favorite pasttime?"

Don't be nervous -- I wasn't being serious about torturing helpless animals. You'll find me perfectly approachable, I promise!

Pastime, huh? Let's see. I have been playing eight-ball and nine-ball for years, and I consider myself something of a trick shot artist as well. Other than cue sports, I also enjoy jogging and swimming -- gotta stay fit... collecting wine labels, and baking cookies.

sakurai_atsushi: "Are you always this calm and collected? Nothing seems to bother you, so what would it take to make you snap?"

Why, I will take that as a compliment. That reminds me. Someone once told me that... that I would never snap because I never had any self-control to begin with. Obviously she was mistaken -- I mean, being a successful CEO requires a great deal of resolve. Yet it was such a curious statement that I can't seem to forget it, even after all these years.

sakurai_atsushi: "And lastly, ...How long have you and Leon known each other? How did you two meet?"

Leon and I go back a long time. I was acquainted with his brother, who introduced us to each other.

temporos: "64% of people polled believe you would eat lake trout. Would you eat lake trout? If so, would you eat it with butter, tartar sauce, or lemon?"

Sorry to disappoint those who voted in your poll, but I happen to be allergic to fish.

temporos: "Do you harbour resentment toward any person (or group of people) for the death of your father?"

Well... who am I going to blame? The shepherd? The psychotic elf? The elfologists that created her? Or the society for creating demand for artificial elves?

I've always thought of scapegoating as a... kind of a last resort. If you don't have the grit to accept the reality, or the power to change it -- then scapegoating may be your only viable option. But look at me: I'm the CEO of the Elf Control Agency. I'm not going to waste my time ruminating on some displaced resentment. I am going to do my job and help prevent such tragedies from happening again.

The SokkaToph Brainchild: "You were approximately 14-15 at the time of the Catastrophe of 1442, weren't you? Do you remember what it was like? What were you doing, at the time?"

Do I remember what it was like? Do I, by any chance, remember the most unforgettable days of my life? The end of my childhood? I think I do.

...I was... busy trying to survive out on the streets. For a homeless kid with a growing boy's appetite, half a million people dying in some distant location doesn't quite matter as much as finding a meal. Heh.

The SokkaToph Brainchild: "What piece of advice would you give to a younger person?"

Always think ahead of others. Know your limits -- then figure out how to overcome them.
